Tailored Pants

In exchange for a scarf, Mary offered to teach me how to draft and construct pants. We decided to make a pair of wool high-waisted trousers with a fishtail back for my brother because he fits into a standard size, which made drafting the pants patter simpler.

We started with a muslin to help iron out fitment. We ended up moving the crotch up 1" in the front and took out ease for corpulence we had drafted in to be safe.

The fashion fabric was a nice grey heathered wool from B Black&Sons (1.5yds). We ended up using the entirety of the yardage with very little left over. In the future I know to order 1.75-2yds for his pants to make sure I have enough fabric and some wiggle room as well. We also went with a 1.5" cuff and 2 pleats for the style.

In the pictures above you can see all the basting and construction of the pockets and linings for the pants.

Overall I think it's a pretty good first pair of pants. The fit in the back crotch and CB waistband needs to be taken in but I'm pretty happy with it overall.
