"Shag" Carpet
When trying to decide what design I should go for the phrase "shag carpet" popped into my head so there you go. I made this project right after the lock-down started, it made for a good outlet.
I started by making a "square" frame out of pine 2x4's with an inner dimension of 3'x3'. I then cut strips of carpet tack and nailed them into the perimeter of the frame and attached card table legs onto the bottom so I could have the frame standing up while I used it.
Next using the weave lines of the monks cloth I drew a relatively square border and drew the blocking and letters for my design, including the fill colors. I used 100% wool yarn for this project and the monks cloth was 100% cotton, I chose these materials for their longevity.
More filling with the punch needle, I would look at the underside occasionally to make sure I hadn't pushed any loops too far out and that they were all uniform in height.
Finally I steam-pressed it flat, whip stitched the raw edges and painted a rubber backing onto it to secure the loops. Voila, a "Shag Carpet".
